The Dynamic Duo of Education Reform
So you were fortunate enough to get your hands on the copy of the proposed 2009-2010 CPS Budget. You were one of a proud few as this has been one of the most hidden budgets in CPS history.
The budget may prompt you to ask questions like,
- Why is Ron Huberman blaming teacher pensions for a possible property tax increase to cover budget “deficits”?
- Why aren’t TIF Funds being shown as siphons on revenue streams?
- Where’s the detail on charter school finances?
Come out to any of three budget hearings scheduled for this week. Go on public record, voicing your concerns over how this money will be used/misused/abused. Connect with CORE members and find out how we can work together to open the books and ensure that our tax dollars are being used effectively and transparently.
The hearings are scheduled as follows:
- Amundsen High School, 5110 N. Damen, August 17
- Marshall High School, 3250 W. Adams, August 18
- Black Magnet School, 9101 S. Euclid, August 19
All hearings begin at 7:00 PM. To sign in for public participation, plan to arrive by 6:00 PM.
