CORE’s third endorsement for Pension Trustees is Lois Ashford, a veteran teacher from O”Keefe Elementary. Lois was displaced last year when Copernicus Elementary was “turnedardound” by the Chicago Board of Education. The staff at the school was fired and forced to re-apply for their jobs. Lois joined CORE at that time and found a position for the upcoming school year.
Lois will fight any concessions that put our pensions at risk.
Lois Ashford: As trustee, I will ensure that the pension fund is carefully safeguarded and the Board of Education pays its fair share. For far too long, the Board has ignoredits responsibility to properly fund our pension. I will work to see that changed. In this era of pension holidays, furloughs, layoffs, and givebacks; we need someone who will fight for our pension. Now more than ever, we need to stand up for the pension that has been won over generations of struggle.
