Lois Ashford, one of CORE’s candidates for Chicago Teachers Pension Fund Trustee was displaced when her former school, Copernicus Elementary, was turned-around by the Chicago Board of Education. She realized that the one thing they could not take away from her was her guaranteed defined-benefit pension.
The pension is currently under attack through intense lobbying efforts by the Chicago Board of Education. Now more than ever, we need a fighting team on our side securing our pensions. That is why CORE researched the voting procedures for displaced teachers in the Pension Trustee election on October 30th.
Displaced Teachers may vote at the Union offices at Merchandise Mart, the Pension Fund Office (203 N. LaSalle, Suite 2600, Chicago), or at any school. If you vote at a school, make sure to tell the election judge that you are a displaced teacher and they will provide you the appropriate ballot.
