Union-Endorsed, CORE Candidate for Pension Trustee, Lois Ashford
At last night’s House of Delegates meeting, a motion was called to the floor to approve UPC candidates for the Union’s endorsement for CTPF Pension Trustees.
In an unprecedented move, organizers from all opposition caucuses united against the executive board’s motion to approve UPC stalwarts as our Union-endorsed pension candidates. Although efforts were made to thwart the vote, the amendment to approve all six teacher trustee candidates, including Lois Ashford and Jay Rehak, won 105-99. The House is the governing body of the Union and last night, the House took back our Union.

The attempt to fast-track of UPC candidates into their endorsements was another example of the Union leadership using the House for political maneuvering. CORE and the other opposition caucuses scored a big win for our Union as well as the Union movement as a whole. When reformers unite, we cannot lose.
